RECENT TV SHOWS CONVEY THE IMPORTANCE OF REHAB

With television drama being better than ever, serious subjects such as alcoholism and addiction are being dealt with regularly on a number of shows, stressing the importance of inpatient alcohol rehab for men and women.

On Shameless, Lip, played by Jeremy Allen, is desperate to clean up his act so he doesn’t wind up like his father, the infamous Frank Gallagher, played by William H. Macy.

And on the family drama, This Is Us, Milo Ventimiglia’s character Jack checked into an AA meeting, a step it took him some episodes to make. On the show, he says, “I have been drunk for weeks. And I thought I had it under control…I have a problem. I need to get a handle on it before I can walk back into that house.”

As Ventimiglia tells Entertainment Weekly, “It’s a big moment for Jack to be able to ask for help. It’s a very big moment for this man to (1) admit that he has a problem, and (2) admit that he needs help with it. I think it makes him more admirable that he’s not just trying to stifle it or hide it himself.
